A Laundry Game-Changer!
Does looking at your mountain of laundry overwhelm you? Give yourself a much-needed break and DON’T fold everything! Only fold what NEEDS to be folded to look good.
I don’t know about you, but just the thought of doing laundry makes me groan!!! With a landscaper husband, 6 boys and a baby in the house, it seems like we always have a mountain of it! Sometimes, I think back to the days of just my husband and me, and remember those four loads a week…
Okay, back to reality…
A couple years ago, I was beginning to feel completely overwhelmed with having to fold every single piece of clothing for seven people. I began reading every “laundry method” I could find to read about, and found one that has become a total game-changer for me!!! Simply put, DON’T fold everything! Only fold what NEEDS to be folded to look good! I wanted so badly to try it but really thought my children would be a wrinkled mess all the time. Even if we are just going to be home, I enjoy seeing neat children, so I really didn’t want them to be a mess all the time! I finally decided to try it for one week, and if I didn’t like it, I could go back to my old way. I was so excited to find that I could not tell a difference in the before and after! I never looked back!!!
So, here’s what I do now. Each of my children has their own basket for clothes, small enough that they are capable of carrying it around on their own at a pretty young age. My three year old can do it. Those are in easily-reachable rows next to my sorting table. As each load comes out of the dryer, I sort all their clothes into the baskets, no folding necessary! The only exception is their church clothes. I give those a thorough shaking out to remove any wrinkles and then fold those neatly, laying them to the side for the boys to take up and hang up. I do fold mine and my husband’s clothes and the baby’s clothes.
After all the laundry is done for the day, I’ll let the boys know that their clothes are ready to be put away, and then they are responsible to get their clothes in their drawers and hung up in the closet. Again, the only things that I require to be neatly folded or hung up are their jeans and dress clothes, everything else is able to be tossed in their drawers. I put all the rest of the laundry away, and we’re done!
I must admit that I still don’t enjoy doing laundry! But, knowing I don’t have to fold everything or put it all away has definitely helped me keep sane while managing 15-20 loads of laundry a week! Give it a try and let me know how it works for you!
